Did you know that the flute-like lead from Jack Ü’s “Where Are U Now” is actually Justin Bieber’s pitch-shifted voice? Within sitting down with NY Times, the duo Skrillex and Diplo came together to tell how exactly they did the mega hit, ‘Where Are U Now.”
In addition to shedding light on the artists’ creative process, the clip also offers an exclusive sneak peek at previous demo versions that ultimately didn’t make the final cut.
“This might sound silly, but we purposefully tried to put almost bad sounds in it at the beginning to know that we have to make something sound better,” says Skrillex.
While praising each other’s artistry (Diplo calls Skrillex “one of the best drum mixers ever”), the trio also acknowledges the unlikely nature of the pairing.
“Skrillex would have probably never done a song with Bieber a year before or two years before,” says Diplo.
“I was like Diplo? Skrillex? I don’t know if that’s really where I want to go,” Bieber admits. “Then they did it and it was like ‘oh my gosh, this is blowing my mind.'”
