Exciting news for the production of the modern day upcoming musical, The Wiz, as Ne-Yo, and Common have signed on board.
The network’s latest live musical is set to air on Thursday, Dec. 3.
The respective roles of the R&B singer-songwriter, the Oscar-winning rapper and the Hairspray veteran have yet to be announced. Last week, Orange Is The New Black star Uzo Aduba joined the cast as Glinda, the Good Witch, and Glee alum Amber Riley signed on as Addaperle, the Good Witch.
The Wiz, which follows NBC’s live musical adaptations of The Sound of Music and Peter Pan, will have Queen Latifah playing the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evillene and David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion. Shanice Williams, an 18-year-old newcomer, will star as Dorothy.
Kenny Leon is directing The Wiz, and Harvey Fierstein is adapting the book for television.
